Food Adventure in Venice, Italy

I ate so much delicious food when I was in Venice, Italy. Some people said food in Venice is nothing special but I actually enjoyed all of my meals in Venice. There are a few food that are unique for Venice. The first one is Tramezzini. The best way to describe Tramezzini is a folded triangle sandwich with yummy delicious fillings. The filling can be as simple as egg and cheese. The price of Tramezzini is very affordable. It’s one of the best cheap eats in Venice.

I had Tramezzini twice. Once in Venice & once in Mestre which was the city that I stayed at. Both of Tramezzinis that I had were excellent. They are light and fluffy. I had one with egg and one with Prosciutto. You can find Tramezzinis easily at cafes/bars(they serve coffee at bars in Italy) and you will be delighted to try it.

The next Venice’s delicacy that you must try is Ciccchetti which is the Venetian version of Tapas. Cicchetti is usually made out of variety of finger foods and the cost is very affordable. We can find variety of fried food such as chicken fingers, fried rice balls, fried meatballs, fried cheese balls and many other different type of finger food. Just like Tapas, it’s fun to pair your Cicchetti with refreshing beverages.

The next Venetian’s delicacy is the Black Squid Ink Pasta. This was my first time having the squid ink pasta and I have to say that I loved it! The pasta was al dente and the taste was so tasty. When you are in Venice, you will need to try the black squid ink pasta. It’s an experience.

Finally, I need to tell you about my favorite restaurant in the whole Venice. Actually this place is in Mestre which is about 15 minutes train ride from Venice and it’s a Chinese place. It’s not just any Chinese place, this place is as authentic as it can gets. The name of this place is Ristorante Azzura. The 4.5 stars rating on Google is not a hype. This place is that good!

I ate at this place at least 4 times. The first time, I went there with my hostel roommate, Derry. We spent about 40 euros but we got so much food and wine! The price of the meal there is very affordable. Each dish is probably about 5-6 euros. The flavor is just out of this world. It reminded me of Chinese food that I had back home (in Indonesia). It’s authentic and just the most delicious Chinese I’ve had in a very long time.

After that first visit, I went back by myself a few more times. I’ve done dine in and take away orders. The service was great. They were friendly. At my last visit, one of the owners gave me a free taste of fruity wine because I think he saw me there multiple times in a week. I definitely cherish this place and if you are in Venice, make a stop by in Mestre and visit this hidden gem.
