Free museums in Madrid, Spain

I love going to museums. I think it’s one of my favorite things to do when I am traveling to new cities. However, I don’t like paying for full admission price to these museums. If I only went to one museum, I will totally pay full price. If I wanted to go to multiple museums, the cost will add up quickly.

I love Madrid because they have certain days when some of museums in the city have free admission! I went to three museums in Madrid and they were all free, including the famous Prado museum.

The first museum that I visited for free was the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum. They have a free admission day on Mondays from 12pm-4pm. You will need to make reservation online. They have amazing work of art, including a couple of Salvador Dali’s painting. This museum is huge so I recommend to reserve the early time, so you will have plenty of time to explore.

Another popular museum that you can attend for free is the Reina Sofia Museum. You can visit the museum for free on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 7pm to 9 pm or Sunday from 1:30pm to 7pm. You will need to make reservation online as well. In this museum you will find more eclectic and unusual art. It’s a very interesting experience.

The third museum that you can attend for free is the Prado museum. It’s probably the most famous museum in Madrid. You can visit the Prado museum for free from Monday to Saturday from 6pm to 8pm or Sundays from 5pm to 8pm. You will need to make reservation online. Also they don’t allow photography in the museum. I was trying to take a picture of Cupids painting and I got yelled at. I managed to take this picture of Jesus before I knew that taking pictures is prohibited. This museum is huge so you might want to get tickets for the earliest time so you can see almost everything there.

Of course there are other museums that you can visit for free in Madrid. Google is your best friend. I would highly recommend you to look for more free museums and activities in Madrid or wherever you are traveling to. What are your favorite museums in the world?
